QU130 | Conversion of coach house

2013| Berlin | Planning in an existing context | 70 m2 | LP 1-3 | two design variations

In the courtyard of a late-19th-century Berlin building in the district of Wedding, a compact, two-story residential unit is being created within a former coach house. The roof is being raised to provide additional space, while the new exterior walls on the upper floor are largely made of recycled polycarbonate in the form of multi-wall panels, creating a lightweight, translucent envelope. The deliberate contrast between the historic structure and contemporary materials emphasizes the character of the building and sets up a dynamic dialogue between old and new.
